Electric Shock Reduction
Someone was getting an electric shock every 2 weeks
While working at the company Chris had dedicated the majority of his working life to, someone was getting an electric shock every 2 weeks. All of these shocks were caused by people making basic errors. All the systems were in place to prevent this, but it was still happening. Chris believed that people weren’t buying into electrical safety, so he contacted Amy, and they made a video.
The video tapped into people's emotions
Chris and Amy created an emotive video involving family members that changed the way people FELT about the dangers of electricity. Through the video, they enabled people to draw a direct correlation between taking a risk, and the potential consequence of that action. Not only for themselves, but for their family, their workmates; everyone who is affected by that choice.
The effect was astounding
The video formed the foundation of a campaign which was rolled out to around 8000 employees.
In the 12 months after it was rolled out, electric shocks dropped by 40%! Not only that, but proactive identification of electrical safety issues doubled within 3 months
The message is universal
We added Bahasa Indonesia subtitles and showed some Indonesian colleagues. They loved it! They took it back and showed it at a Family Safety Day where everyone was invited. Their manager told us there were people with tears in their eyes.
We even won an award!
At the Arrium Safety Excellence Awards, we were recognised for the impact we had on the Safety mindset, and for setting the benchmark for the way Arrium approach safety engagement in the future.
